In this holiday tradition, E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King comes alive in The Nutcracker Ballet by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky.  Swirling snow, sword-fighting mice, ladies and gents dancing at a grand party, children opening Christmas presents… all of these and more are present in The Nutcracker.
